There has been something of a team building revolution happening over the last ten years or so, with companies finally realising that their team cohesion is incredible important. Lots of research has in fact been done on this area and it shows that those teams who understand each others roles and communicate well, always perform better than teams who might sound better on paper, but don’t interact well.

The number of companies choosing to use team building days has risen by 23% in the last 5 years, and the range of activities open to businesses has more than doubled. Some agencies run team building days were you have to build a car from scratch virtually, and others take place in exotic rain forests. One type of team building day that has proved very popular is corporate cookery days. The format of these days usually includes a competitive element between a number of teams who are required to put together a first course, second course and sweet, which is then later judged by a panel of ‘experts’.

The popularity of these cookery days has certainly got a lot to do with Chef Gordon Ramsey’s increasing popularity and his no-nonsense kitchen management approach. In fact many of these team building cookery days use the theme of a Gordon Ramsey style kitchen. If your thinking its a day of fierce discipline though, think again. There is always a layer of fun added into these challenges, and it usually very humorous when things go wrong

These fun, tongue in cheek style team building days are even starting to replace corporate hospitality events.Many business men and women are getting fed up of the same old hospitality events, where they end up bored stiff, but having to pretend they are having a great time.Nobody wants to be sitting around idle, having to produce forced smiles every five minutes, they want to be getting involved with the entertainment. And who can blame them, starting a food fight at someone else’s expensive has to be the best way to have fun doesn’t it?
